Goccia di Carnia is a sponsor of “The Piave between challenge and memory”, the duel using pedals that on July 14th will witness a battle between two men whose names are written in the annals of Italian sport, Francesco Moser and Maurilio De Zolt.
Along 9 km of the climb that leads from Cima Sappada to the source of the River Piave at the foot of Monte Peralba these two giants of Italian sport are ready to relive, the clash that took place twenty years ago on the Stelvio. “I went to train on the glacier, Moser had stopped cycling recently - recalled De Zolt - I won because I was better prepared and because we were racing uphill, which is not Moser’s best terrain. This time, however, I fear he is the one in the best shape. I'm trying, I've been preparing myself for a few months, I’m improving day by day, but I don’t know if it will be enough to win. If Francesco wins, I'm ready for next year.”
But “Il Piave tra sfida e memoria”, an initiative proposed by the Municipality of Sappada, the Consorzio Sappada Dolomiti, All Red, Aics Belluno, Circolo 1554, Ubi Jazz and Giovani a posto, will not only feature the Moser-De Zolt duel. The Sappada time trial, in fact, is open to all those keen riders who want to battle against the hands of the stopwatch and that, on the day, will be able to compete not only against De Zolt and Moser, who will battle it out, elbow to elbow, at the end of the day, but also against many other champions of sport including the cross-country skiers Silvio Fauner, Pietro Piller Cottrer and Roberto De Zolt and the cyclists Andrea Peron, Moreno Argentin and Simone Fraccaro. To provide additional interest to the challenge, there is also a team classification.
